Another fatal shooting claims a life

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was found dead, seated in a luxury vehicle.

A MAN was shot dead in a shooting incident on Fennis Close in Umbilo today, January 16. Paramedics responded to the scene at approximately 17:00.

This is one of several shootings in the Berea and surrounding areas in the past two months.

Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med Paramedics Kyle Van Reenen said they arrived on the scene to find a man, approximately forty years of age, seated in a luxury motor vehicle with fatal gunshot wounds.

“He was declared dead on arrival of paramedics. The motive for the shooting and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” said Van Reenen.

Spokesperson for Umbilo SAPS Phumzile Makaula confirmed the incident
“A case of murder was opened at Umbilo SAPS. No arrests have been made. Two suspects were involved – the suspects were on foot,” said Makaula. *

On January 5, a man was injured in a drive-by shooting on Problem Mkhize Road.

Minutes before midnight on December 31, there was a shooting incident at Kings Park Stadium when an off-duty police officer allegedly fired shots during a New Year’s Eve celebration.

This adds to another incident in December when two people were killed in a shooting incident in the Durban CBD.
