Ways to spend the festive season when away from family

The key thing is to always occupy yourself with the things that you enjoy the most. Here's a list of some things you can do to celebrate your festive season

THE festive season has officially arrived and for a lot of people, this means spending some quality time with family.

Spending the festive season without family may seem daunting, even depressing. The key is to occupy yourself with the things that you enjoy the most.

If you are unable to spend the holidays with your loved ones, here are some suggestions to ensure that you don’t feel left out of the festivities:

Venture into something new or old

The year has been a very demanding one for everyone and with that being said, not a lot of people found the time to discover their hidden talents, hobbies or had enough time to do the things that they love. Take pottery and painting classes, try a new recipe, make a short film, volunteer for a good cause or even write poetry.

Keep in touch with family/loved ones through video calls and messages

Even though you can’t physically be there, you can still see and talk to your family thanks to the power of 21st technology. Talking to your family during the festive times will in make you feel less alone.

Reflect on what happened in 2022 and write a goal for 2023

As cliché as it may sound, having a solid plan for your future goes a long way in knowing what you need to accomplish. Spend a solid hour or 30 minutes reflecting back on what you did well during the course of 2022, what you could have improved on and what goals you wish to accomplish in the next year.

Go at your own pace

There’s a possibility that you might experience fomo (fear of missing out) when viewing posts on social media. If possible, try to spend less time on social media platforms and focus on the things that bring you joy. Going at your own pace means trying not to be influenced by the things you might see or hear from others.

Enjoy the festive season!
