City announces plans to repair Rachel Finlayson Pool

The mayor announced that repair work will begin soon.

THE eThekwini Municipality has announced plans to repair the popular Rachel Finlayson pool on the Golden Mile.

The pool has lain empty and closed for years, sparking concerns from the public. Now, the City says a contractor has been appointed to fix the damaged pool.

eThekwini mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda acknowledged the public’s frustration with the lengthy pool closure, saying, “Now that we have appointed a contractor, we can get the pool up and running again. In addition, officials are also finalising the appointment of a contractor to repair the Children’s Amusement Centre pool, also at the beachfront.”

The mayor added that the public can use South Beach Paddling, which is currently operational.

In addition, the Kingspark indoor and outdoor pools are also operational and are close to the beachfront. Across the municipality, a further 22 pools are operational. They are Rainham, Durban North, Pipeline, Tiger Rocks, Anstey’s, Westville, Stanmore, Umlazi D, LT King, Bayview, Arena Park, Alex Bulley, Lamontville, Lahee Park, Ntuzuma, Sutton Park, Tesoriere, Mariannridge, Tills Crescent, Croftdene, Bellair and Umgababa.
