Morningside school welcomes new headmaster

“My goal is to continue the outstanding work of all who have come before me," said newly appointed headmaster, Grant Phipson.

MORNINGSIDE school, Durban Preparatory High School, recently welcomed their new headmaster, Grant Phipson, the 13th headmaster at the helm in the school’s 112-year history.

Commenting on his appointment, Phipson said he is honoured to take up the post.

“My goal is to continue the outstanding work of all who have come before me and to ensure that Durban Preparatory High School remains the school of choice for all those parents who subscribe to our traditional school ethos and vision of ‘Preparing Our Boys for Life’,” said Phipson, who added that this is his first permanent position as headmaster.

Phipson, who matriculated at Durban High School in 1986, went on to study at Edgewood College of Education and obtained a Higher Diploma in Education, majoring in high school mathematics and physical education. He later obtained a Diploma in Business Management from Damelin Management School.

“I started teaching at Chelsea Preparatory School in 1992 and was promoted to Head of Department before leaving there in 2004 to come to Durban Preparatory High School where I served as Head of Department and was promoted to Deputy Principal in 2013,” said Phipson.

In 1995, Phipson headed abroad to teach in London and to travel around Europe.
