Love lights a candle

The service is non-denominational and will offer love and support for people with cancer and their families.

ST CYPRIAN’S Church, in collaboration with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Durban Symphonic Choir, will host a service of hope, love and remembrance at the church at 603 Umbilo Road, on Thursday, December 1 from 18:30.

The idea behind the service is to light a candle to honour cancer survivors, remember those who lost the battle against cancer, and share hope with those still fighting the battle, thus spreading a message of love, hope and remembrance at a time of the year when families are planning to get together for the festive season.

Lay minister at the church Simon Read says the purpose of the service is to remember and commemorate the lives of people who have died from cancer. “The service is also a celebration in support of people who are suffering from cancer at the moment. The service is very moving, especially if you have been involved with a parent or a loved one with cancer. We will have cancer survivors who will give their testimonies of what they’ve been through. The Durban Symphonic Choir is absolutely wonderful to listen to. And literally, each member of the congregation is called to come up and light a candle to remember people who have cancer, who have died of cancer and have survived from cancer,” said Read.
