Suspects in the dock for Bonela house robbery

It is alleged that a group of men held the occupants at gunpoint and stole various items from their home.

TWO suspects, aged 18 and 26, appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on November 2 with charges of house robbery. They were remanded in custody until November 10.

The suspects were arrested on October 30 when police from the Cato Manor Task Team responded to a report of a house robbery on Palace Place in Bonela.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the suspects had held the residents at gunpoint during the robbery.

“It is alleged that a group of armed men arrived in a vehicle, stormed the house and forced the kitchen door open. They held the occupants at gunpoint and stole two TVs, cellphones, a microwave and other items, which they loaded into the complainant’s bakkie,” said Gwala.

Police swiftly responded, and the bakkie was found abandoned on Khwebezane Road in Lamontville.

“A short while later, the suspects were intercepted and they were found in possession of the victim’s two cellphones. Police also seized various bank cards from the suspects,” concluded Gwala.
