Free business classes in Berea

After a successful seminar, the NPO plans to host the class every week on a Tuesday.

BEREA-based non-profit organisation Zinojo Skills is working to uplift the local community by providing skills development and entrepreneurial training free of charge to anyone in need of employment. After a successful seminar, the NPO plans to host the class every week on a Tuesday.

Recently, the NPO hosted a carpentry course, where Sibusisiwe Nxumalo taught participants how to build their own cabinets. The latest class was a business workshop aimed at equipping local entrepreneurs with the skills they need to launch and grow their own businesses.

The first day of the workshop covered the basics of starting a successful business.

“We train people in various skills from building cupboards to sewing. From that training, they need to be able to learn how to start a business. The first day of the workshop is focused on what people need in order to start a business. We are covering some of the challenges people face when starting and developing their businesses, and how they finance and market their business,” said Zanele Khaoli, founder of Zinojo Skills.

On day two of the workshop, participants learnt how to compile a business plan. “This covered what you would need to do or have to build a business plan. This includes how to find sponsors or financial assistance,” she said.

Leading the class was Nhlaka Tsele from local company Botho Agency. Khaoli said he volunteered to share his expertise after reading about Zinojo Skills in Berea Mail.

“They saw us in Berea Mail and offered their services. We are really grateful to have people like this to help with what we are doing for our community,” said Khaoli.

Khaoli added that Zinojo Skills is happy to organise another class to cater to the community. “If there is a need, we can arrange more classes,” she said.

She added that there was a promising response to the recent workshop.

“We had about 12 people attend on the first day. We can see there is a need for support, and people need this kind of knowledge. This was the first time we held this type of class with one-on-one interaction. We plan to host more workshops going forward,” she added.
