Durban Central SAPS appeal to the public for assistance in rape case

Durban Central SAPS are appealing to the public to come forward with information about a man believed to be involved in a kidnapping and rape case.

DURBAN Central Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit detectives are seeking assistance in finding a man allegedly involved in a rape and kidnapping case. The Durban Central police believe that the man can assist them in making progress in their investigation.

According to the Durban Central South African Police Services (SAPS) captain, Muzi Maphumulo, it is alleged by the victim that on September 9 at 18:00, she was walking on foot near The Workshop.

“The complainant was approached by an unknown brown Polo, which stopped next to her. The driver of the vehicle threatened the complainant with a firearm and instructed her to go inside the vehicle,” said Maphumulo. Maphumulo says it is alleged that the driver took the complainant and drove towards Umgeni Road where he stopped the vehicle on the side of the road. The suspect reportedly raped the victim and dropped her off after the rape.

The kidnapping and rape case was reported to Durban Central SAPS soon afterwards.

“The police request assistance from the public in finding the person in the provided photograph. It is believed that he can assist the police in solving the rape and kidnapping case. The docket was transferred to the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation,” said Maphumulo.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the person in the picture provided by SAPS or anyone who has knowledge of the incident to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Dludla, at 061 375 4876 or to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
