UPDATE: Police confirm third person injured in court shooting

Marshall Security and SAPS were on the scene.

POLICE confirmed that three people were injured when shots were fired at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, September 7.

Two people were shot outside the courthouse while a stray bullet injured a third person inside the building.

Sergent Zanele Khomo of Durban Central SAPS confirmed that three were injured.

“Two people, both aged 21, were shot outside the building. One person was injured on the left leg above the ankle, and the second was injured on their left arm. Stray bullets hit a third person inside the building, who was injured on their left leg,” said Khomo.

The incident is under investigation.

“The suspect is known to the two victims shot outside the courthouse. Both victims are from the Wentworth area,” said Khomo.

Andreas Mathios of Marshall Security responded to the scene just after 11:00. He said the gunshot victims were being treated on the scene by paramedics, and SAPS was also on the scene.

“The activity at the court is carrying on as normal. The shooting scene has been contained,” said Mathios.
