WATCH: Excitement as first woman passes Tollgate Bridge

In true Comrades spirit, spectators gathered on the sidelines to cheer runners on.

BEREA residents came out in their numbers to support Comrades Marathon runners. Berea Mail captured the moment as the first woman, Russia’s Alexandra Morozova crossed under the Tollgate Bridge, just kilometres away from the finish line at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Morozova claimed first place in a time of 06:17:48, followed by Poland’s Dominkia Stelmach in second position, and the first South African woman to cross the finish line was Adele Broodryk, who finished third.

South Africa’s Tete Dijana was crowned Comrades Marathon champ with a time of 05:30:38.
