Man shot in Greyville high-speed chase

It is alleged that the man and his accomplices were involved in a cash heist in the area.

A MAN was shot while fleeing from police at the intersection of Cross Street and Gladys Manzi Road in Greyville today, Friday, August 26.

This is according to Kyle Van Reenan of Emer-G-Med Paramedics.

“A male, believed to be approximately thirty years of age, was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg following a shootout and high-speed chase with the SAPS,” said Van Reenen.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the injured man.

“It is believed that the man and his accomplices committed a cash heist in the area when they were intercepted by the SAPS,” added Van Reenen.

Five occupants of a taxi were also injured during a collision as suspects fled the scene of the crime. This is according to Garrith Jamieson of Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics.

“On arrival, paramedics found a crime scene cordoned off by SAPS members. It is alleged that there was a robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle before the suspects crashed while fleeing the scene.

“Five occupants from the taxi involved in the collision had sustained minor injuries and were transported by ALS Paramedics to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required,” said Jamieson.

Captain Muzi Maphumulo, spokesperson for Durban Central Saps, confirmed that there was an attempted cash-in-transit robbery at approximately 14:30 on ML Sultan Road in Berea.

According to Maphumulo, three suspects accosted a cash-in-transit guard at gunpoint, and shots were fired between the suspects and guards on the scene.

“The suspects fled in a silver Audi sedan which later crashed in the Durban Central area. Two suspects were arrested while attempting to flee on foot after the crash.
One suspect was injured and taken to hospital. One firearm was also recovered from the suspects,” said Maphumulo.

He added that an Astra revolver with a filed-off serial number was found on the scene of the shootout on ML Sultan Road.
