WIN: Tickets to popular horse racing series

Team KwaZulu Royals remain in the top spot on the series’ leaderboard after last Friday’s race meeting.

THE Hollywoodbets Greyville racetrack was abuzz on Friday, August 12 for the second night of South Africa’s new Global Team Horse Racing series (GTH).
The horse racing series which kicked off on August, 5 continues until September 2. Team KwaZulu Royals remain in the top spot on the series’ leaderboard after last Friday’s race meeting. This Friday, August 19, the KwaZulu Royals take on the Cape Stingers.

GTH is a brand new style of thoroughbred horse racing in South Africa. Points are awarded on a sliding scale with eight races every week. For a win, teams earn 23 points. Second place is worth 18 points. The third and fourth runners in each race earn 15 and 12 team points respectively. At the end of each evening, a team win scores 2 points, a draw 1 point and a loss is worth 0 points.

Heading into week three, KwaZulu Royals have 2 points, Cape Stingers 2 points and Gauteng Gijimaz 0 points.

Commenting on the race series, GTH marketing manager Angus Campbell said, “It has been a thrill to watch. The racegoers love the format, and many have said that this is the most fun they’ve had at the racecourse in years! We’ve attracted some top local jockeys and trainers to the field, and the horses have put on some exhilarating performances.”

Gates open from 17:00, and races start at 18:00. General access tickets cost R100 at the door. Children under the age of 14 enter free of charge.

Caxton Local Media, in partnership with GTH,  has tickets to give away. Tickets are awarded in sets of four tickets – for a family or group of friends to enjoy. Tickets are still up for grabs for Friday, 19 August and September 2. Global Team Horse Racing series takes a break on August 26 with no races scheduled.  All you need to do to qualify is:
