“It is a crime to conceal a birth. We appeal to the community that if anyone sees someone disposing of a newborn, to report this to the SAPS immediately. Community members should not touch a dead body or interfere, as this poses a health hazard,” said Maphumulo.

Kyle Van Reenen, spokesperson for Emer-G-Med Paramedics, said they were called to the scene to assist the SAPS at approximately 13:00.

“Paramedics assessed the baby to find no signs of life, and it was declared deceased on the scene,” said Van Reenen.
