Man shot in Overport house robbery

An armed reaction officer encountered an unknown number of armed suspects.

PARAMEDICS rushed to the scene of a shooting incident on Darby Road in Overport at approximately 18:00 on Monday, August 1.

According to Kyle Van Reenen, spokesperson for Emer-G-Med Paramedics, shots were fired during a house robbery.

“Reports from the scene say that an armed reaction officer, aged approximately 30, was responding to an alarm activation when he encountered an unknown number of armed suspects,” said Van Reenen.

Van Reenen added that a shoot-out ensued, and the officer sustained a gunshot wound to his right lower arm.

“He was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.

The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly.
