Steet lights in Lyme Road off for a year

Musgrave resident James Lea says there are street lights on his residential road that have not been working for a year now.

POORLY lit or dysfunctional street lights can be a major safety hazard for residents. The absence of functional street lights can lead to a rise in crime and can lead to accidents and injuries due to poor visibility at night. Musgrave resident James Lea says there are street lights on his residential road that have not been working for a year now.

“The bottom two lights on our road have not been working since June 2021. I reached out to the municipality, and they came out to fix one street light, but yet another light stopped working. I have been trying to get the problem resolved for so long, with no luck,” said Lea.

Lea says he feels it is a safety hazard for the residents of Lyme Road. “We live in a day and age where you have to be very security-conscious, and we as residents try to put measures in place in our own homes, but we do also want a bit of visibility in the evenings for safety.”

He also added that a majority of the street lights on Musgrave Road, which need to be used as a pathway road to get to Lyme Road, do not work, and residents in Lyme Road have trouble using the busy road at night. “When you have been asking for a whole year for something to be repaired and it hasn’t, it is just so disheartening.”

The municipality was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
