Two killed in Durban City Centre horror crash

The collision involved a bus and a bakkie on the corner of Stanger Street and Somtseu Road in the Durban CBD, and resulted in two fatalities and multiple injuries.

NUMEROUS passengers were reportedly injured following a bus and bakkie crash on Sunday evening, at around 23:30, on the corner of Stanger Street and Somtseu Road in the Durban CBD.

“On arrival, paramedics found carnage involving two vehicles which had collided in the junction before both vehicles veered off the roadway, coming to rest on the sidewalks. We found multiple casualties and immediately called for more resources to assist, including the eThekwIni Fire Department. Once assistance had arrived and a triage was done, it was determined that there were approximately 20 bus passengers who had sustained various injuries. Once stabilised on the scene, they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required,” explained ALS Paramedics’ Garreth Jamieson.

He said that a male driver of the bakkie and a female believed to be in their thirties had sustained major injuries, and they were declared deceased on the scene.

SAPS and metro police will be investigating further.
