One dead, policeman injured in Cato Manor shooting

An SAPS member narrowly escaped death after a gun battle with a suspect in Cator Manor, Durban. He was treated on the scene and transported to hospital with minor injuries.

ONE person, who is believed to have been a suspect, has been killed and a policeman injured in a gunfight in Cato Manor, Durban, on Wednesday (August 11) around 01:30 in the early hours of the morning.

ALS Paramedics responded to the shooting incident to find the area cordoned off and multiple SAPS and security personnel in attendance.

“Paramedics found that an alleged suspect had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared deceased on the scene. Paramedics found a policeman who had been struck by a bullet in his bullet-proof vest during the gunfight. Fortunately, the bullet was stopped, however, the patient was treated and transported to hospital for minor injuries,” said ALS’s Garreth Jamieson.

SAPS are investigating further.
