Suspect nabbed for selling refuse bags in Greyville

The Durban Metro Police uncovered piles of refuse bags being sold at a Greyville flea market, resulting in the arrest of a suspected vendor.

FOLLOWING an operation conducted by Metro Police Central Region members and the Durban Central Field Unit, a suspect was arrested for being in the possession of Cleansing and Solid Waste (CSW) refuse bags at the Greyville Flea Market, where he was attempting to sell them.

Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said that the the arrest was a result of the metro police acting on a tip-off they received. “They found the suspect with 60 clear packets, each containing 100 CSW refuse bags worth R6 000. He was also in the possession of three sealed bags, each containing 26 CSW refuse bags.”

“The City reminds residents that CSW black refuse bags are not for sale and are delivered to residential properties every three months. Residents are encouraged to notify the City in the event of anyone selling CSW refuse bags by calling 031 311 8804,” he said.

The City emphasised that it was illegal to sell municipal refuse bags and urged residents to report the crime.
