Three men in custody for armed robbery in Glenwood

A man running out of the bushes appeared traumatised, catching the attention of patrolling SAPS officers in the area. The man was reportedly a victim of armed robbery, and swift response from the officers resulted in an arrest of three men believed to be the perpetrators.

ON Wednesday afternoon, the Umbilo SAPS Task Team, while patrolling along George Avenue, Glenwood, they discovered one male running out from the bush. They discovered that he was a victim of armed robbery, and later, the suspects were apprehended.

Umbilo SAPS spokesperson Captain Pumzile Biyana said, “After seeing the man running out of the bushes, our members stopped and questioned him. He informed the police that he was walking along King George Avenue earlier, and he was stopped by a white VW Polo. One of the three occupants jumped out of the vehicle, pointed at him with a firearm and robbed him of his cellphone. He gave them his cellphone and ran away into the bush. The suspect jumped back into the vehicle, and they drove away.”

Biyana also said that the victim gave the police a description of the suspects and the number plate of the vehicle. “The members caught up with the vehicle on the corner of Brand Road and Ferguson Road. They recovered the complainant’s cellphone and found a 9 mm pistol. All three suspects were arrested for armed robbery,’ said Biyana.
The suspects will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (August 30).
