Keeping your belongings safe during distribution

Distribution manager Dhinesh Harilal asks readers to not leave gifts for the distribution team in their postboxes but to rather gift them in person.

IN the season of giving, Caxton Local Media appeals to readers to be cautious when gifting crew members who deliver our newspapers. Distribution manager Dhinesh Harilal said their team has noted complaints from readers that things left in the postboxes are taken by crew members.

“It is that time of the year when people receive stuff via courier in the postboxes, and we receive calls stating that our crew members have stolen those items. In some instances, we find that it is not our crew but people who are watching the postboxes or delivering other things in neighbourhoods.

“We are finding that some people are saying they left some important items in the boxes and they have been taken by our crew members. This came about because some people do leave something for our crew members, and with that, some runners assume that some things are theirs when found in the postbox. So sometimes, it’s because some residents have set those standards, and members just assume it’s theirs so they just take it,” he said.

Harilal pleaded with the readers to rather hand over whatever it is they want to give to our members so they know exactly what is meant for them.
“With some claims that cannot be proven, we cannot take responsibility if something goes missing in the postboxes because anyone could have taken it.

“We do not condone cases where crew members ring bells on doors, asking for something, especially at this time of the year as there is an expectancy of gifts,” he said.

Readers are encouraged to immediately report such matters via our toll-free line so we can investigate and take it further.
