Boy dies in fire on Broad Street, central Durban

Multiple casualties were treated for smoke inhalation.

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has succumbed to his injuries in a fire that broke out in one of the buildings on Broad Street, central Durban, just after midday today (December 13). Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics are currently at the scene after receiving alerts of buildings on fire in the area.

ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says, “We had to treat multiple casualties of smoke inhalation on site. The ALS team quickly rushed to the sixth floor of one of the buildings where we found an unresponsive 13-year-old boy, who was later declared dead on the scene. Four more people have been rushed to the hospital.”

At this stage, the events leading up to the fire are unknown, however, SAPS and the Durban Fire Department were in attendance and will be investigating further.
