Three suspects nabbed in Sydenham

The suspects were found in possession of four firearms and nine fully loaded magazines.

THE South African Police Service have attributed the nabbing of three suspects in Sydenham to a good relationship between the police and the community, after the police responded to a tip-off that led to an arrest of three men at a lodge on Quarry Road West in Sydenham on Saturday afternoon (December 9).

The police responded to an alert of a suspected hijacked vehicle, which was spotted at the lodge, and upon arrival, they found two vehicles. One of them was reported hijacked in Sydenham a fortnight ago, while the other was hijacked in Newlands recently.

Upon further search of the premises, three men, aged 19, 23 and 56, were found inside a room in possession of four firearms, nine fully loaded magazines, eight bullet-resistant vests and an empty rifle bag.

The suspects, who claim to be from Delft in Cape Town, were arrested, and investigations into their possible mission are underway.

With Sydenham known for persistent drug turf wars, police believe that the suspects, who booked into the lodge from December 6 and were to check out on December 11, could have been in the area to execute a hit.
