City says they are committed to rooting out corruption

eThekwini mayor Clr Mxolisi Kaunda said the municipality will continue to investigate fraud, corruption and maladministration-related issues and already some members have been arrested or fired.

IN commemoration of International Fraud Awareness Week this week, the municipality hosted a seminar at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, on November 29, to raise awareness about the impact of fraud on society.

“To achieve clean and good governance, we work with the private sector, civil society and organisations to educate residents to be responsible and report any acts of fraud or corruption to the City Integrity and Investigations Unit. Good governance is a cross-cutting issue that affects every sector of development,” said Kaunda.

He said the municipality will join hundreds of organisations from around the world that are affiliates under the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) to commemorate International Fraud Awareness Week. ACFE is the world’s largest anti-fraud organisation and provider of anti-fraud training and education.

In demonstrating that the City remains committed to rooting out fraud and corruption, Kaunda said several employees have been arrested or fired.

He said strict policies and procedures are in place to prevent fraud and corruption across the municipal area. eThekwini Municipality encourages residents to report incidents of unethical conduct and maladministration to the City Integrity and Investigations Unit.
