National Students’ Financial Aid Service opens for applications

South Africa's biggest student financial aid has opened applications for the academic year of 2024.

THE National Students’ Financial Aid Service (NSFAS) has opened its applications for the academic year of 2024. The applications opened yesterday, November 21, and will close on January 31, 2024.

The NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.

The bursary covers accommodation, living allowance and book allowance.

Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?

  • All South African citizens.
  • All SASSA-grant recipients.
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  • Persons with disabilities whose combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

To apply, students must go to nsfas.org.za and create a profile, then apply and upload relevant documents.
