Help make Christmas Fair in aid of children’s home one to remember

With the help of the community, children from St Martin’s Diocesan Home for Children can experience a magical Christmas party.

FOR over 100 years, St Martin’s Diocesan Home for Children, based in Berea, Durban, has opened its doors to children in need.

Founded in 1897, the home is one of the oldest children’s homes in South Africa. Children at the home are provided with a warm and nurturing environment, schooling and the kind of support required to build their self-esteem.

There are currently over 75 children living at the home. Children who are taken into the home have either suffered abuse or neglect or have been abandoned or orphaned. In some cases, the child’s family may have simply lacked the financial stability to be able to provide for the child’s needs.

On December 10, a collaboration of Dream Hotels and Resorts are coming together under the Touching Dreams non-profit company to give the children at the home a Christmas party to remember.

The Christmas Fair will be held at the Tala Game Reserve to raise money for much-needed maintenance to the home.

Touching Dreams envisages a large selection of inflatable games from Rainbow Inflatables, a DJ, game drives, archery, paintball and a 360 photo booth for entertainment. Food and drink stands will serve a simple menu for the day for visitors to enjoy.

While Touching Dreams, in connection with Dream Hotels and Resorts, will sponsor the event, they are looking for additional sponsorships to make the event a memorable one. Financial assistance or additional games, events, ideas or items to add to the festivities are welcomed.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the home for the maintenance of their building, as well as to make their Christmas a brighter one.

Expenses include the hiring of inflatable games, transporting children to and from Berea to the Tala Game Reserve, food and drinks for the children from the home on the day, and signage and collateral. An additional expense will be incurred for a health and safety representative to be available on the day.

All donations will receive an 18A certificate.
