Glenwood learner wins silver at archery nationals

Danya Thompson said the competition was spread across four days, and she shot for two days.

DURBAN Girls’ High School learner Danya Thompson won a silver medal at the South African National Archery Championships held in Pretoria at the weekend.

What’s more, the talented archer achieved her National Colours for The South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association (SANIFAA), and she was selected to be Magnum Team Shooter.

Thompson said the competition was spread across four days, and she shot for two days.

“It had its ups and downs. I had to adjust to the altitude which affected my sighting – that is my aim at the target. The altitude can sometimes affect it, and then it drops,” she explained.

She also needed to make some changes to her equipment ahead of the comp.

“The week before the competition, something went wrong – my trigger kept misfiring – so I had to change my bow and trigger. I used the same type of bow but a different model. It was a challenge in a way because it had a different feel, but I got used to it,” said Thompson.

Her silver medal achievement places her second in the country for her category in archery.
