From Thursday, December 15 to Saturday, December 31

TWO of cabaret’s most consummate, interesting, accomplished and quirky performers, Godfrey Johnson and Roland Perold, reunite around the piano to bring their tantalising show: The Good News Cabaret to Durban’s Rhumbelow Theatre (42 Cunnigham Rd, Umbilo) in December for a two-week festive season, from December 15 until 31.

There is safe on-site parking and no refreshments to be bought on the site. Tickets are available via www.computicket.com or email roland@stansell.co.za.

Friday, December 16

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA will be hosting their first post-Covid Carols by Candlelight on Friday, December 16 from 18:00 to 20:00 in Marilyn’s Tea Garden at the SPCA, 29 Village Road, Kloof.

The cost is R40 per person and includes a candle. It’s R20 for children under 12, and dogs on leads are most welcome.

Saturday, December 17

THE North Durban Honorary Officers will host their next open morning on Saturday, December 17 at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve.

Gates open from 08:00 until 13:00. Visitors can enjoy the boardwalks on their own, at their leisure, or take a guided walk through the reserve with one of the honorary officer volunteers.

There will also be plants for sale as well as a guided bird walk which starts at 08:15 sharp. Book through the Reserve’s Facebook page.

Conservation manager at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve, Basil Pather, has reminded residents the reserve is open on the third Saturday of every month.

Sunday, December 18

THE next Umhlanga Antiques and Collectables Fair takes place on Sunday, December 18 at the Umhlanga Centre (Ridge Road).

The fair is held on the third Sunday of every month. A variety of bone china, crystal and silverware, as well as interesting collectable bits and pieces, will be on view and for sale. Lovely finery for any home will be available, and of course, you never know, maybe that wonderful find for the bargain hunter will be on sale.

From December 8 to January 15

KICKSTART presents Jack and the Beanstalk at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from December 8 to January 15.

This magical and hilarious family pantomime is written and directed by Steven Stead and designed by Greg King, with lighting design by Tina le Roux.

The show stars dashing newcomer William Young as the hero, Jack, with the golden-voiced Roshanda Lewis as his love interest, Princess Jill. Blessing Xaba steps into the Dame’s high heels to play Jack’s long-suffering mother, Flora Flatbroke. Panto favourites, Bryan Hiles and Iain ‘Ewok’ Robinson, feature as the inept robbers, Cecil and Claude. The forces of good and evil are represented by Shelley McLean Downham as the ditsy good fairy, Glissanda Goldenvox with Liesl Coppin as the deliciously nasty Lady Beastly. And the much-loved, versatile actor, Lyle Buxton, once again gets up on his stilts to play the Giant.
