A call to save a life

Westville Boys’ High School will be hosting a blood-donation drive to increase the chances of one of their learners getting a much-needed blood transfusion.

SOME Durban schools have joined in one voice with Westville Boys’ High School as they are requesting the public to donate blood to assist one of their learners who is in need of a blood transfusion.

The school took it to their Facebook page to request the public to join them in hosting a blood drive. “One of our boys is in high care and needs blood transfusions – but he can only receive O-negative, and there is currently no stock in KwaZulu-Natal.

We are calling all our parents, boys and Westville community members who know they are definitely O-negative to attend a blood donor drive at WBHS in the RCT Foyer today from 08:30,” read the post.

The school said this is to increase their learner’s chance of receiving blood. “While there is no guarantee this blood will get to Blake with the current shortage, we want to make sure there is enough in stock so that he has a high chance of receiving blood from this drive,” they said.

Schools such as Glenwood High School, Northwood School and Westville Senior Primary, to name a few, have shared the post across their social media platforms to spread the message.

The school encouraged the public to also donate at their nearest South African National Blood Service Centre (SANBS) as they will be hosting from a limited space.
