No woman candidate for KZN ANC’s top position

The ANC Women’s League had hoped Nomusa Dube-Ncube would be the first female to lead the party in KwaZulu-Natal.

KWAZULU-NATAL Finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube and businessman Sandile Zungu are out of the race for the powerful position to lead the African National Congress (ANC) in the province.

The ANC is currently holding its ninth provincial elective conference at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.
Dube-Ncube and Zungu could not get enough support to qualify for the position during the nomination process on Saturday.

On the other hand, Zungu announced that he would no longer run the race to become the provincial ANC chairperson.

As things stand, Premier Sihle Zikalala and Siboniso Duma are the two candidates remaining to contest this position.

Provincial Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu and Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane were nominated to stand for the position of deputy chairperson while Bheki Mtolo and Mdumiseni Ntuli will be battling for that of the provincial secretary.

The voting process is currently underway.
