Mandela Day joy at local children’s home

The touching donation did not go unnoticed by centre director, Mandy Goble.

MEMBERS of Mothwa Haven visited the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre on Mandela Day, July 18, to deliver 75 packed lunches to the children who call the centre home.

The touching donation did not go unnoticed by centre director, Mandy Goble.

“I understand that many of the people living at Mothwa are struggling to cover their own expenses. When they find it in their heart to share the little they have, that means so much to us.

When people give from their heart, it really leaves you with a warm feeling,” said Goble.

For Mothwa resident, Saxon Colling, there was as much joy in giving.

“Mandela Day is all about donating and bringing joy to children, and adults – not thinking about yourself but thinking of others.

It’s excellent seeing the joy on the childrens’ faces, as they receive something others would laugh at. What the home has done is magnificent,” he said.

Mothwa Haven’s general manager, Kasthurie Naicker, added that the lunch packs included sandwiches, juice, fruit and chips.

“We like to pay it forward – especially with the younger generation. We run a charity shop as a fundraising initiative and use funds to do outreaches. This is our fourth outreach,” said Naicker.

Mothwa has run several collection drives, donating sanitary pads, blankets and stationery to schools in need.
