R500 parking fine under investigation after motorist cries foul

Superintendant Boysie Zungu of Metro Police says the matter is under investigation.

A MOTORIST made headlines when he took to social media to question a R500 parking fine he received.

In a Facebook Post, the motorist shared a photo of his vehicle, asking if the fine was fair. Social media users were quick to come to the motorist’s defence, some suggesting he take the matter up in court.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Superintendant Boysie Zungu of Metro Police said the fine was issued on Wednesday, July 20 on Erskine Terrace, South Beach.

Zungu said the fine had not been revoked although the complainant was advised to report the issue and fill out a form.

“The matter will be investigated. If we find there is something wrong on our side, we will recommend that the prosecutor withdraw the charge. We need to get both sides of the story because currently, we only have one side of the story from the complainant,” said Zungu.

Zungu added that the motorist was not fined for reversing into the parking space but for parking facing oncoming traffic.
