11 injured in Umbilo taxi crash

A taxi veered off the road, hitting a pedestrian.

A TOTAL of 11 people, including a pedestrian, were injured after a serious collision on the corner of Canada and Magwaza Maphalala (Gale) streets this morning, July 5, at approximately 07:00.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics arrived on the scene to find that two vehicles had collided at the junction.

“A taxi left the roadway and struck a pedestrian on the pavement before coming to rest against business premises,” said Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics.

Jamieson added that a ‘quick triage’ revealed that 11 people had sustained various injuries.

“More ambulances and advanced life support paramedics were called to assist. The injured sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious,” he said.

ALS Paramedics and EMRS stabilised all patients and transported them to various hospitals for the further care they required.
