WATCH: Sneak peak of Kathrin Kidger’s Hollywoodbets Durban July designs

Kathrin Kidger explored North African culture for this year’s theme.

FASHION has long been an integral part of race day. As the Hollywoodbets Durban July approaches on July 2, well-known Musgrave designer, Kathrin Kidger, tells Berea Mail how she is interpreting this year’s theme, ‘Show Me the Honey’.

Kidger is one of five celebrated designers selected to feature their work at the Invited Designers Showcase – the most glamorous element of the Hollywoodbets Durban July fashion experience.

Designers are selected for their position in the market, experience and relevance to the fashion landscape. Each designer presents a showstopper for an individual and a race-day ensemble for a couple.

Kidger’s interpretation of the theme, Show me the Honey, centres around opulence, immortality and African royalty.

“Honey is deeply associated with North African cultures – with the idea of immortality. For instance, in Egyptian culture, people were buried with big vats of honey. Honey is also used throughout the continent as medicine. For me, the theme was all about immortality, African royalty, luxury and how that plays into our brand standpoint,” she said.
