WARD 33 Councillor Sakhile Mngadi has released an update on his Facebook page about the Capital Investment Budget for 2022.
The purpose of this budget is to get councillors to instruct funding for certain capital projects. This means that, as a ward councillor, he will have the opportunity to suggest to the government which community projects need to be prioritised.
According to Mngadi, the rule is that the city must not already be funding the project, so the councillor can’t ask for streetlights, potholes, verge cutting and other community projects that the municipality is already aware of.

“The budget was R3m, but it has been cut to R1m,” said Mngadi.
The Ward 33 Councillor has proposed the following projects that he says should have a big impact on our ward.
Project 1: Special Signage (R450 000)
– NO TRUCK BEYOND HERE
These will be very large signs with a flashing light that will not be missed by truck drivers.
– NO ILLEGAL DUMPING HERE
These will go up all over the ward, especially in problem areas, to raise awareness and deter dumpers.
Project 2: Tesoriere Pool Upgrades (R250 000)
R250 000 will be used to upgrade the change rooms, piping and to build a better seating area and entrance at Tesoriere Pool in Umbilo.
PROJECT 3: Bulwer Park and Umbilo Park Repairs (R300 000)
R300 000 will go into the grade-one construction work of both parks – pathways, benches, picnic areas and fencing – all that was damaged by the April Floods.
