School mourns loss of beloved teacher

Tributes poured in as the school shared news of the tragic passing of their teacher Heather Bensch.

THE Clifton School flag was flown at half-mast as the school shared news of the tragic passing of one of their teachers.
“As a school community, we are devastated at the loss of Mrs Heather Bensch, a long-standing and dearly loved member of our Clifton staff who tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday,” said the school in a post on Facebook.
Tributes poured in on Facebook as more than 1 800 people reacted to the news with over 600 tributes.
The school said Bensch was travelling to Grahamstown to watch her son play rugby for the Clifton 1st XV when tragedy struck.
“Heather joined the Clifton staff in Term 2 of 2008, and over the past 14 years, has been a valuable member of the Clifton college staff. A colleague, a mentor, a teacher and a dear friend, Heather will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. We extend our sincere and deepest condolences to her husband, her two sons, their family and friends at this difficult time,” said the school.
The Clifton School community has been invited to leave flowers, messages and tributes to the late teacher on the benches and Founders’ lawn.
