Friday, June 24

THE next Market 031 takes place on Friday, June 24 from 17:00 to 21:00 at 10 Ranleigh Crescent, Durban North. The vibrant market boasts more than 70 stalls with items ranging from delicious food to uniquely handmade products as well as artisanal produce. The night market will also feature live music. Entrance is free and is pet friendly.

 

Saturday, June 25

THE East Coast Radio House & Garden Show is back and begins this weekend until July 3. This year’s celebration is themed “Celebrating 40 years of creative spaces” with plenty of giveaways, special offers, big competitions and more. The event will be held at the Durban Exhibition Centre, 11 Walnut Road, Durban. To purchase a ticket visit: https://bit.ly/EcrHgShowTicketAndCake. Ticket prices are R100 (adults) and R70 (pensioners and students). Children under 12 entre free.

 

THE fifth Annual Welcoming of the Whales Festival will take place at WESSA Treasure Beach from 08:00 until 16:00.  The Sodurba Tourism Association will be hosting numerous educational activities including a beach clean-up and a rocky shore walk, with WESSA & Wildoceanssa. There will be numerous educational information exhibitions in and around the venue. There will also be a small arts and crafts market with a some food vendors. Entry is free.

 

Opens Saturday, June 25

A GROUP of artists, including Maggie Strachan, Joan Martin, Lara Mellon and Ana Pereira de Vlieg, as well as students of Maggie Strachan’s studio will be exhibiting at Woza Moya in Hillcrest from June 25 to July 19. The exhibition entitled Reflections, which will be opened by Estelle Hudson at 11:00 on Saturday, June 25, includes a wide range of paintings, drawings and mixed media works. The artists have explored light reflections, reflected images, as well as expressed their personal interpretations of the Reflections theme in their own unique ways from the most subtle and delicate sketches and paintings to bold, vibrant oil paintings and multi-media works. Apart from being able to take in a visual feast of affordable art, visitors can also enjoy refreshments from the Ubuntu Ground Café. The exhibition is being held at the invitation of Paula Thompson, Executive Director of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, and a percentage of the proceeds will go to the trust.

Sunday, June 26

THE Umgeni Steam Railway, which has been devastated by the April floods, is hosting a Fundraising Open Day offering “Steam Train Shorties” – mini steam train trips, a craft and food market and lots of train-themed attractions on Sunday June 26 at Inchanga Station (1 Station Road).

The Inchanga Craft Market will be in full swing with dozens of stalls offering family-friendly locally-sourced fare. The market will operate from 8:00 until 15:00

Entry is ticketed and ranges from R50 per child / adult / OAP for one steam train ride in a vintage carriages, and R150 for multiple rides. Tickets available at Inchanga Station and no pre-booking is required. Trains depart Inchanga Station at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00.
