Morningside resident goes missing after carjacking

The case of Morningside resident Chad Dorkin has been posted and shared all over social media since the 24-year-old went missing on Sunday, June 12.

MORNINGSIDE resident Chad Dorkin has been missing since Sunday, June 12 after a carjacking that took place in Woodford Grove in Windermere. Durban Central SAPS have confirmed that Dorkin was hijacked in Windermere at 18:45 on Sunday evening and was taken with the car.

“A case of carjacking and kidnapping has been filed by the family,” said Sergeant Zanele Khomo. Dorkin was last seen in Windermere,  according to Khomo. The 24-year-old was last seen wearing a green jacket and black-and-green track pants. The hijacked vehicle was a silver Toyota Yaris, registration number – ND 360 697.

Various Umbilo community-watch forums have posted about Dorkin’s disappearance, resulting in an immense community response on social media, with the posts being shared across various social media mediums by concerned residents and supporters of Dorkin’s return.

Domenic King, director of the community-protection forum, Combined Community Watch, commented that this particular case is concerning. “With most hijacking cases, the victims are dropped off within half an hour, or their cards are taken, and once they have run you dry, they let you go. We hope that this young man is found soon.”
