Woman robbed at knifepoint in central Durban

The woman panicked and threw her car keys away.

A WOMAN  was sitting in her car near Warwick Avenue when two suspects threatened her at knifepoint in an attempted hijacking on Monday, May 16 at about 13:30.

“It was alleged that the complainant panicked, screamed and threw her vehicle keys away. The two suspects took away her iPhone and drove away with their vehicle,” said spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo.

According to Maphumulo, police were following information of the robbery incident when they spotted a suspicious vehicle at 14:00. They searched the vehicle and found an iPhone that fit the description of the stolen cellphone as well as a hidden knife.

“The members located the complainant, who positively identified the suspects as those who robbed her. The complainant also identified the recovered cellphone as belonging to her. The vehicle, a Toyota Etios that was used by the suspects, was also seized and taken to the police pound,” said Maphumulo.

The suspects, aged 31 and 32, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and possession of a dangerous weapon.

“The suspects will also be linked to aggravated robbery and attempted carjacking,” concluded Maphumulo.
