Multiple injured in Berea crash

Reports from the scene indicate a truck and taxi collided at the intersection.

PARAMEDICS arrived on the scene to find a serious accident on the corner of Umbilo Road and Che Guevara Road (Moore Road) just before 6am on Sunday morning.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics Medical Services, said they arrived on the scene to find multiple patients with injuries.

“It is alleged that a truck and a taxi had collided in the intersection. The driver of the taxi sustained serious injuries and was entrapped in the wreckage. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize the man while the eThekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to try and free the man from the wreckage,” said Jamieson.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment once free from the wreckage.

“Multiple other passengers from the taxi sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious, were also stabilized on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital,” said Jamieson.

The events leading up to the accident are unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
