SAPS catch car-breaking thief hiding in Durban store

Police found the suspect hiding in a clothing store on Anton Lembede Street.

THE Durban Central SAPS arrested a suspect after he was caught red-handed with stolen property and tools used to break into a vehicle. The arrest was made on Thursday, April 21 in central Durban. 

Spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said police were patrolling in the Durban CBD when they received a tip-off about a vehicle break-in that was taking place along Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street).

“The informer saw a suspect breaking into a Hyundai vehicle and stealing a cellphone,” said Maphumulo.

The informer followed the suspect and signaled for police to assist.

“Members apprehended the suspect who was found hiding inside a clothing store. The suspect was found in possession of a stolen cellphone and car breaking implements,” said Maphumulo.

The suspect was detained at Durban Central SAPS.
