Loads of trash and debris recovered from Durban beaches

During extensive clean-up efforts across Durban's beaches over the Easter weekend, more than 40 000 bags of rubbish were collected.

PLASTIC waste, reeds, and debris washed up on the shoreline after the floods, and municipal staff, organisations, and volunteers have been picking them up.

Crews began working on Good Friday and gathered more than 12 000 bags of trash from the city’s northern beaches, including Umhlanga, uMdloti, and Westbrook, according to the City.

The municipality reported that they collected approximately 8000 bags of trash from the Pipeline and Amanzimtoti beaches. With teams also set out to work on the Bluff and the Durban shoreline.

According to eThekwini Municipality, all beaches will stay closed until the water quality improves.
