SAPS call for help tracking down repeat rape suspect

The 22-year-old victim was allegedly raped from 2017 to 2021 before breaking their silence.

DURBAN Central SAPS are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that will assist them to solve a rape case.

Provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit detectives are investigating a case involving a 22-year-old victim in Druban’s Point area.

“It is alleged that between the period of 2017 to 2021, a 22-year-old victim was repeatedly raped by a known suspect on Bell Street at South Beach. In 2021 the victim broke the silence and reported the matter to Point police,” said Gwala.

After a docket was transferred to Durban Central FCS for investigation, the suspect heard that police were searching for him and he left the area.

“He is originally from Limpopo province and his whereabouts are unknown at this stage. A warrant of arrest has been issued by the Durban Magistrate’s Court. We appeal to anyone who might have information regarding the wanted suspect to contact the investigating officer Detective Constable Dlani on 079 812 0486 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” concluded Gwala.
