Iconic Blue Lagoon Swan Boat missing after storm

The owners think the Swan Boat washed down Umngeni River in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

THE iconic Swan Boat at Blue Lagoon disappeared on Tuesday, April 12 after heavy rains tore through Durban. Blue Lagoon Pond, where the boat sits, flooded in the downpour and the boat most likely washed down the Umngeni River.

Boat owner, Sandra Isaac is calling on the community to share any information that could help them relocate the boat.

“The boat is still missing. We spoke to Metro Police and they are assisting us. Nothing has come up anywhere. the pond flooded and merged with the river and the boat must have drifted away,” said Isaac.

While concerns were rising with the heavy rains, Isaac said the boat was secured.

“When the rain started, we didn’t know it was going to continue into the night. We couldn’t pull the boat out the water at night and decided to check up in the morning. We thought the boat was tied securely enough. We never expected it would wash away,” said Isaac.

She thinks the boat washed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Isaacs and her partner had the Swan Boat custom built in 2018, to revive the original swan boat that ran along Umngeni River in the 1970s.

“It’s not something we can just buy ‘off the shelf’ or easily replace. This is a huge loss to us,” said Isaac.
