Musgrave man robbed, thieves rack up R2500 from his card

Jon Ivins was meters away from his car when suspects broke in and stole his wallet.

LOCAL photographer, Jon Ivins was taking photos on St Thomas Road when suspects broke into his car and stole his wallet, camera lense, and spare camera battery.

Ivins said his bank card was used at a nearby liquor store and supermarket where R2500 was spent within 15 minutes of the incident.

“I was parked outside Garden Grove in St Thomas Road. I was photographing the new Mosque. I was close to my vehicle – literally across the road -when I went over to get a closer photo of the Mosque,” said Ivins.

The photographer said the stolen lens was an asset to his business.

“The lens that was stolen was one of my favorite lenses and I use it a lot in my style of photography. When my business was doing better I could afford to buy it,” he said.

Ivins said the incident was reported to SAPS.

Captain Poobalan Naidoo, spokesperson for Berea SAPS confirmed that a case was opened. 

“The matter is under investigation,” he said.
