PinkDrive keeps charity on track

Both the fun run and race will start and finish at Ushaka Marine World.

THE community can support a good cause while enjoying the Durban coastline as Ushaka Athletics Club hosts a running race on Sunday, April 3. The family-friendly event offers runners a 5km fun run or a 10km race and both routes start and finish at Ushaka Marine World.

Participants who opt to add R10 to their entry ticket will be supporting PinkDrive in their life-saving work which centres around cancer awareness and early detection through screenings.

Janice Benecke, KZN administrator for the PinkDrive said they will also be selling fun merchandise at the start of the race to raise further funds and awareness.

“We are selling running socks, wigs and tutus incase runners want to get dressed up. We are also going to be selling PinkDrive Tshirts to anyone who wants to run in it. We are trying to make the run as pink as we can to raise awareness,” she said.

The PinkDrive will also be accepting donations on the day if runners opt to donate R10 or more in cash or via EFT. Funds raise will assist Benecke in taking the Pink Drive mobile clinic to those in need.

“Through the clinic we assist the medically uninsured to give them free examinations and education. With the help of our sponsors we also run wellness days where we go out and do free breast examinations, pap smears and prostate and testicular screenings and offer free medical advice,” said Benecke.
