Young golfers meet legend, Gary Player

Golfing all-star, Gary Player recently attended the Jonsson Workwear Open championship where he took the time to school two aspiring golf professionals.

ONE of the world’s most travelled professional golfers jetted into town recently to run the rule over players participating in the Jonsson Workwear Open championship.

The flagship event was held at both Durban Country Club and Mount Edgecombe Country Club from February 24-27.

Gary Player, winner of 160 titles worldwide since 1963 and two Grand Slams is regarded as one of the all greats in the game of golf.

While at the Jonsson Workwear Open, Player was introduced two of the most promising young amateurs Ben Wilson and Harry Clayton from Clifton Private School by their coach, Muss Gammon.

Gammon said Player encouraged the youngsters to train hard, practice diligently, eat the correct nutrition and exercise daily to be successful in the game.

According to their coach, both of the young golfers drive their tee shots over 200m and their five-iron shots travel a distance of 150-plus meters.

The golfing legend, who previously won five SA Open titles at the Durban Country Club told the youngsters, “If you follow my lead and listen to your coach you will be successful in golf and make millions on the various professional golf circuits around the world.”
