Greyville robbery – Two suspects arrested, two at large

Suspects boarded a taxi as they fled from the scene of the crime.

A GANG of four suspects robbed a man of his cellphone on Mathews Meyiwa Road (Stanford Hill Road) at approximately 16:15 on Sunday, February 27.

Spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said Durban Central crime prevention members were patrolling in the area when the complainant flagged them down.

“The complainant informed the members that he was robbed of his cellphone by four suspects who got away in a taxi,” said Maphumulo.

The victim gave SAPS a description of the suspects and the taxi used as a getaway vehicle.

“Members chased and managed to stop the taxi at the corner of Sandile Thusi Road and Mathews Meyiwa Road. Two suspects managed to jump out of the taxi and escape whilst the other two suspects were apprehended,” said Maphumulo.

The arrested suspects are both aged 27.

“The stolen cellphone was recovered and the taxi will be impounded at Isipingo Pound. The suspects will be charged with robbery. Both suspects are detained at Durban Central SAPS,” said Maphumulo.
