SOUTH Africa’s unemployment rate is amongst the highest in the world, so it’s vital for the youth to consider entrepreneurship as a sustainable career path.

“The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is calling on all Grade 12 learners to apply for their Fellowship Programme for the opportunity to become part of a high-spirited entrepreneurial community dedicated to developing the entrepreneurial potential of learners and bringing about positive change in South Africa,” said Allan Gray Orbis Foundation in a statement.

The foundation is calling on all young, business-minded grade 12 learners to apply for the fellowship opportunity.  In their statement, the foundation explained what students could gain from this opportunity, 

“The Fellowship is one of four distinct programmes that the Foundation offers. Fellowship recipients are known as Candidate Allan Gray Fellows and receive access to entrepreneurial mindset development interventions, funding for university studies as well as personal and academic development support.”

The Fellowship Applications Requirements are as follows:

· South African citizenship

· 21 years of age or younger in 2022

· Minimum of 60% in Pure Mathematics or a minimum of 80% in Mathematical Literacy for final grade 11 results

· Minimum average of 70% for final grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)

· Intention to study towards a Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry); Engineering, Law, Humanities or Arts Degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, University of Cape Town, Nelson Mandela University, Rhodes University, University of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch University, University of Pretoria, University of the Free State and University of KwaZulu-Natal.

· Indications of an entrepreneurial mind-set

· Belief in the future of South Africa

According to the foundation, applicants with a combined annual household income of R1 million and below will receive full funding. Applicants with a combined household income above R1 million will receive needs-based funding.
