ANC wins Ward 101 by-election

While the ANC won the ward, statistics show a split between voters at voting stations across the ward.

THE Independent Electoral Commission has released the results of the Ward 101 by-election, which saw the ANC win the ward by 1085 votes.

This makes up 44.49 % of the ballots cast in the ward. The DA received 576 votes (22. 03%) across the ward, while the EFF received 530 votes (20.27%).

ANC candidate, Mkhipheni Ngiba was voted in as Ward 101 councilor.

While the ANC won the ward, statistics from the voting stations reflect a split in voters preference at the polls. The ANC was favoured at Westridge High School voting station with 52.15% (206) votes. The bulk of votes came from  Cato Crest Community Hall voting station where 693 (53.97%) residents voted for the ANC.

At the University of KwaZulu-Natal voting station, the DA won 216 votes, which made up 83.72% of the votes cast at the station. The DA also took the lead at Carrington Height Primary School voting station, with 84.3% (204) votes.

IEC spokesperson, Thabani Ngwira said the voting process ran smoothly.

“There were no issues at the polls,” he said.

The Ward 101 election was delayed after ANC councillor candidate, Siyabonga Mkhize was reportedly shot and killed ahead of the November election last year.
