Opera concert to dazzle Durban

Singer, Sbanisenkosi Mwelase will be joined on stage by several local opera stars as well as pianist, Ashan Peiris.

RENOWNED baritone singer, Sbanisenkosi Mwelase will dazzle Durban with a concert of songs and excerpts from Opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi.

The show takes place on Sunday, February 27 at 14:00 at the Durban Jewish Centre.

Mwelase, who was born and bred in KwaZulu Natal, is a Civil Engineer by day and a singer by night. With no formal training, Mwelase is largely self-taught.

Joining him on stage are local opera stars, Nokulunga Dlame (soprano), Zamokwakhe Zungu (tenor), Musa Magwaza (bass) and Khayakazi Madlala (soprano).  They will be accompanied by Ashan Peiris on piano.

The programme will include well known compositions by Verdi, including duo, Vaticini Compiuti, Pura Siccome un angelo and Parigi o cara.

Refreshments will be available at the show, including tea, coffee, and bar service. Booking is essential due to Covid-19 protocols.

The Durban Jewish Club is located at 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road. Tickets are R120 for members and R140  for non-members.
